Sure, it is fun to hear what each person came up with, but once you have listened to it once, you will probably only take it out to show off to friends -- while you wait for the time you can actually use it, that is. Now, sales of albums in the music industry as a whole have declined since early 2005. Download Internet becomes the standard choice of purchasing music, making CDs obsolete format as cassettes or 8 tracks. Even with combined sales of downloads with all other formats of music (CDs, vinyl, etc.), it does'nt even amount to how the market has been on a downward fall.

Now, a theory of lack of sales back to the download format, file sharing in particular. It has been reported on the giant online I-Tunes, requires an estimate of 600 million songs illegally traded. For example, with the click of the mouse you can buy an artist full-length album, rip on a file and send it to everyone in my address book. Now, if I have 500 friends, they all have the album for free, leaving that means revenue generated if these 500 people went and got the album were null and void.

So Gone are the days 90s, when most of the top ten performers in any market, surpassed platinum, double, triple, on up to multi-mega sale. In rap music for example, which has suffered the biggest blow of all other art forms. the artist is now selling an average estimate of one to two hundred thousand.

From warped phone bells to clever jokes and complete five-second sound art pieces, Touch Ringtones is an homage to conciseness and public annoyance. Participating artists include Ryoji Ikeda, Hazard, Carsten Nicolai, Phill Niblock, Pan Sonic's Mika Vainio, and Oren Ambarchi, among many others. Free improv saxophonist Evan Parker also submits a circular-breathing tone and animal recordings from Chris Watson and Doug Quinn's libraries widen the scope of possibilities.
