Adding songs as ringtones on the iPhone?

I converted all my music on my iPod to iTunes. Aac. Can I sync a song my iphone as a ringtone?? My main question is: How do I put songs on my iphone as a ringtone. I tried to cut the songs with audacity and synchronize with the iPhone, but it does not work. Please Help!
